Bazas with Children

This village in South-East Gironde, only 45 minutes drive from Bordeaux, is a great place to come with your family! Are you wondering what to do in Bazas with your children? The arcaded centre of town (Place de la Cathedrale) is easy to walk around and has plenty of natural space surrounding the exterior wall for small children to run around. There are also multiple festivals during the year that your children might enjoy (check Bazas agenda for exact dates as they change yearly)

February is Fete des Boeufs Gras (festival of the fat cows) for carnival

May is the Fete des Fleures (flower festival) is typically around Mothers Day and a great

June is Fete de Saint Jean (summer solstice festival) is best for kids early on as the part will continue until late into the night for days. The one night to be there for with the parade is generally the Thursday, but double check the city calendar.

September is the Fete de la Palombe (festival for the wild pigeon) for start of hunting season

December there is a Christmas market, which varies year to year, but is in the cathedral square with hot chocolate, vin chaud, pony rides, decorations and plenty of local artisans!

Anne-So is a local artisan who offers crafts and creative ateliers to children from ages 5 and up. Be sure to call in advance to book your place. Summers and holidays in the afternoon from 15 EURO per child and generally run from 3pm-5pm. Kids come home with their own decoration she has helped them create and my girls always have a great time! Right next to Anne-So is a new children’s toy and book store called Le Renard et la Souris, Accueil – Le renard et la souris. It will be hard to leave without one of the beautiful products sold inside! / 49 place de la Cathedrale, 33430 Bazas / +33 05 57 03 53 37

Aquabranche in Bazas has just opened up a new water park and my girls love the aquabranche with ropes to glide down and climb on in the trees. Different sections are for different ages, depending on height. The municipal pool is a great place to cool off, with locker rooms, an ice cream stand, and pool water slide. There are three different sized and depth pools for swimmers of all ages. There are no seats or tables in the pool, so be sure to bring a thick towel to lie on. The bike trail in Bazas goes all the way to the coast, but a day trip to Villandraut is a good start. Its clean and paved so a great way to spend the day! If you don’t have your own bicycle, you can rent from Les Cycles du Bazadais – location de vélos, vélos électriques, tandem, fat bikes à Bazas en Sud-Gironde – 33430 (les-cycles-du-bazadais.fr)
