Over 42,000 hectares or 162 square miles have currently burned in SW France. This is mainly starting from Porges and into Cap Ferret in Gironde, now more Eastern towards Bordeaux, and South to Biscarosse in the Landes. They are still investigating the main reasons these fires started.
Lège-Cap-Ferret is a place to escape the city and enjoy nature. Life slows down. The evenings are even more calm once the day trippers have left. It’s not all oysters, there are plenty of great places to enjoy a meal.
Where do you go to get away from it all? One of the great escapes for someone living in Bordeaux, or Gironde as a whole, is a trip to the Atlantic Coast. One of my favorite places is Cap Ferret, a peninsula that offers both Atlantic coast beaches and Bassin d'Arcachon shores which are perfect for small children. Granted, during high season it can be a like Saint Tropez in summer...filled with people, cars and boats.
When the sun is too hot you can take a dip in one of these watering holes for a break! Between the sandy beaches on the Atlantic, interior lakes and even old quarries, you'll find someplace near you to escape the heat when visiting Bordeaux and Gironde!
