Fresh Bordeaux Restaurants to Escape the Heat

This week is going to be hot, and I’m guessing this summer is going to be particularly steamy. Most French restaurants don’t have air conditioning inside and you need a break from the heat at lunch…so where to go? These are my top three. Great food, service, and cool air!

Since CRU closed, there is now a cocktail restaurant in the same cool, cave space – JOKI! Equally delicious. Lunch requires reservations in advance. Dinner reservations advised. Closed Tuesday and Sunday. / 33 Rue Bautiers, 33000 Bordeaux / https://www.jokirestaurant.fr/

Le Sobre! Is a wine bar in the Chartons, many wines by the glass, apero style small plates. Closed Sunday and Monday-Tuesday for lunch. Easy going staff. 23 Quai des Chartons / https://lesobrechartrons-bordeaux.fr/fr

La Chapon Fin – go for the exclusive dining in the cool cave! While it is the oldest restaurant in Bordeaux (at over two hundred years), this family run business has had some recent updates. Bring a small group and have a private dining experience in their wine cellar. Besides having one of the most impressive wine lists in town, the newly created space is perfect for getting away from the heat, and the crowds. Menus at lunch are just under 30€, service is exceptional / 5 Rue Montesquieu, 33000 Bordeaux / +33 (0)5 56 79 10 10 / https://www.chapon-fin.com

L’Estacade – Go for the view! Located on the water, on the Bastide side of Bordeaux, this riverside restaurant is on the touristy side (food wise). Get in early to enjoy dining on the Garonne, catching some cool water breeze while dining on regional oysters and drinking a nice, crisp AOC Entre-Deux-Mers. If you want a table outside on the terrace in the shade, be sure to request in advance / Quai des Queyries, 33100 Bordeaux / +33 (0)5 57 54 02 50 / https://www.estacade-restaurant.com
