Amicis, Bistronomic Lunch of the French-Italian Classics in Bordeaux

Someday I’d love to try the gastronomic tasting menu at Amicis. Until then, this incredible bistronomic lunch menu at 28€ has me coming back. I went multiple times in 2025 and have shared lunch with clients there, everyone raving when they left. None were too surprised to see Amicis receive a Michelin star the first year in business.

The first thing you’ll notice is the elegant dining room, ground-level tastefully decorated in a mix of caned bistro chairs, marble top tables and soft tones. Servers are dressed in matching uniforms, professionally attending clients in a classically French manner. It’s very clear from the welcomes at the entrance that many of these clients are regulars.

At lunch, the very accessible menu du marché of three courses for 34€ with multiple options. The presentation and technique is what really stands out. Elevated cuisine that can be created with the more modest ingredients is always so exciting to see. At Amicis the stand out dish was the artichoke starter with sautéed feve and crispy artichoke leaves on top. Texture is so important. I’d just gotten back from Italy and this is one of my favorite vegetables to see on a menu. The sauces are also perfection in all of the dishes, rich jus and creamy espumas.

Culinary creations are served on lovely French faïence plate that remind me of a French countryside home (the company that makes them actually has a lot of great designs). Real silver for the cutlery.

Chef Alexandre Baumard has cooked locally in notable restaurants prior, from Logis de la Cadène in Saint Emilion to Le Gabriel here in Bordeaux. You’ll often see him greeting diners at their table towards the end of service. Always a meaningful effort I find in restaurants that makes the experience more personal.

The wine list has a good selection of classical French wines by the glass, more than many restaurants you’ll find in Bordeaux. The list is exclusively French and of what you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. They also have some great non-alcoholic options as well. Including kombucha. The tea or coffee which finishes the meal is served with lovely mignardise.

Amicis. Book in advance. Outdoor dining available in summer. If you do the tasting menu, there is a table in front of the pass upstairs so you can watch the brigade at work. https://www.restaurant-amicis.fr/fr/ / 12 Rue Mably, 33000 Bordeaux / +33556528041

*I need to let you know, for anyone familiar with the Italian language, the French (at least in Bordeaux) pronounce this Italian word ‘Amicis’ like ‘ameecees’. No one will know which restaurant you’re talking about if you pronounce it otherwise.
