There are a few streets in Bordeaux where you will find amazing restaurants. Rue Bahut in Saint Pierre has some of my favorite wine bars, for example. Rue Saint Colombe has lots of green grocers. Rue Saint James has incredible little boutiques and Rue des Ramparts has niche epiceries. Rue Notre Dame in the Chartons has wonderful antique and brocante shops as well as wine bars.*
Finally, Rue du Ha (with a hat on the ‘a’) near to the Cathedrale Saint Andre is named after the chateau-fort created by Charles VII after the 100 years war1, to protect Bordeaux from any potential invasions in the West. During the War of Religions, the chateau it was used as a sanctuary for the Protestants, then ultimately destroyed by Henri IV (Frances only Protestant King) in 1604.2 You will also find the one of oldest Protestant churches in Bordeaux on this street, Temple du Ha3. There is still a tower standing a short distance away which was used as a prison during the French Revolution and WWII. Today, Rue du Ha is known for its incredible restaurants and is a nice street to wonder along.

Lauza *closed as of August 2025* is a lovely chef owned, family run restaurant which features seasonal ingredients, modern French with some Asian influences. Chef XXX went to Ferrandi, Paris for culinary school the same year I went which was pretty wild to find out! They do have some outdoor seating, which is in the sun in the summer at lunch time (FYI), but I love the round ‘chefs’ table in front of the kitchen pass. Closed Sunday and Monday, Open lunch and dinner Tuesday-Friday and Saturday for dinner only / Lauza / Bistronomie / Bordeaux / 5 rue du Ha, 33000 Bordeaux

La Fine Bouche has quickly become a locals favorite, creating some very elegant plates of modern French cuisine with some unique flavors. Also offer a few tables outside, some in the shade in summer. Baston is a bakery using local grains and wine bar serving plates made by another local favorite chef, Julien Borie. One of my favorite local biodynamic farms, Clavaillion in Birac delivers french ingredients to them, which you’ll see on their seasonal plates. Very small, book in advance. Closed Sunday and Monday, Open lunch Friday and Saturday, Dinner Tuesday-Saturday / (1) Facebook / 50 rue du Ha, 33000 Bordeaux

Ishikawa is considered an authentic and favorite Japanese restaurant, so for lovers of real Japanese cuisine, look no further. Can also order take away if ordered in advance, before service. Cave la Charabia is the quintessential Bordeaux wine bar, with great local producers and small plates at lunch. Unique in their extended offerings of sparkling and natural ‘petillant‘ wines, beers, cider, and champagne (in addition to French reds, whites, rose and orange wines). Often has walk-in space during the afternoons, with cheese and charcuterie between services. Don’t miss a chance to try to wines from Chais de la Port de la Lune, which are wines made right in a chai in the Bacalan. Indoor and outdoor dining possible. Closed on weekends, open all day for wine sales and lunch and dinner during normal hours. / Le Charabia / Bistronomique / BORDEAUX / 26 rue Marechal Joffre, 33000 Bordeaux /

Orta has a calming dinning room and is of the newer generation of restaurants in Bordeaux offering health-focused, sustainable, organic cuisine. Vegetarian and vegan friendly, with dishes available daily, there are also dishes for the meat-eaters. Prices are very reasonable and they over takeaway or delivery. Open Monday-Saturday for lunch and dinner / Facebook / 3 B Rue Du Ha, 33000 Bordeaux, Nouvelle-aquitaine

Bibi Restaurant et Cave Is a fun fusion restaurant of Vietnamese and French cuisine I’ve been wanting to try so I’ll save more for commentary after!
