Fromageries and Cheese Tastings in Bordeaux

Everyone coming to France wants cheese and wine! While the SW of France is not home to a lot of cheeses, sorry to say, we do still have plenty of places where you can try some! Bordeaux has lovely fromageries (cheese stores), restaurants focused on cheese, and even some that offer cheese tasting lessons! Here are some of my favorite places to eat, buy and try French cheese in Bordeaux!

Some of my favorite Fromageries and Cheese Vendors in the Markets of Bordeaux

In the covered Marche des Capucins you will find many locations offering cheese, some in addition to other fine food items. The two most popular cheese mongers are Valerie who owns La Ronde des Fromages and Karine Fromagerie. Generally the best days to go will be Wednesday-Sunday. / Place des Carpucins, 33000 Bordeaux

At Sunday morning markets, on the side of the Garonne River in Chartons, you’ll find a local goat cheese producer making some of the most interesting and intensly aged (affiner in French) cheeses. Best hours to go are between 9am and 11am. Quais Chartrons, 33000 Bordeaux

Favorite Fromageries in Bordeaux Center

Fromagerie Deruelle is a beautiful shop on Rue pas de Saint Georges (old medieval spice street of Bordeaux) in Saint Pierre district of Bordeaux. Elodie Deruelle has an amazing hand selected bouquet of cheeses from smaller producers all over France, as well as other local delicacies like Gondolo jams and porc noir de Bigorre cured ham. Many who work in the shop also speak English and are happy to help you find the cheese you are looking for! Closed Sunday and Monday morning / Fromagerie Deruelle / 66 Rue du Passage Saint-Georges, 33000 Bordeaux

Fromagerie Chez Delphine is a cute cheese shop on the Rue des Ramparts which is a street well known for it’s many fine food stops. At Chez Delphine you can even ask for a cheese tasting on site (book in advance) with a glass of wine, of course. Facebook / 44 rue des Remparts, 33000 Bordeaux

There are multiple locations for Fromagierie Beillevaire in Bordeaux, they have not only cheese but also homemade dishes like tartiflette you can take home and heat up to eat! / fromagerie-beillevaire.com / 8 Bis r Michel Montaigne, 33000 Bordeaux

Cheese focused Restaurants in Bordeaux

Deruelle also has a restaurant near Saint Michel church, with lovely views and dishes that have the central theme of ‘fromage’! A fun cheese cellar where you can organize cheese tastings, near to Place Quinconces, is Baud et Millet Restaurant Vin et Fromage which has a really charming cave for it’s dining area and plenty of cheese on offer! Tastings start at around 35 EURO for multiple tastings and wine pairings with explanations offered in English as well as French. Open daily, plan your tasting in advance between lunch and dinner services / Baud et Millet – Restaurant Vin et Fromage / 19 rue Huguerie, 33000 Bordeaux

Creme has one of my favorite decorated exteriors and an ideal spot on one of the prettiest streets in Bordeaux. This restaurant has many unique cheese themed dishes, pretty plating and fun atmosphere. Closed Sunday and Monday, Dinner from Tuesday-Saturday, plus Saturday lunch / Restaurant Crème (cremebordeaux.fr) / 27 rue du Parlement Saint Pierre, 33000 Bordeaux

Wine and Cheese classes in Bordeaux

Don’t miss out on improving your wine and cheese pairing knowledge by taking a class at the Ecole du Vin in Bordeaux! They are on Friday evenings in January and February for 49 EUROS, in French / Ecole du vin de Bordeaux : Formations œnologie et ateliers découverte du vin / 1-3 Cr du 30 Juillet, 33000 Bordeaux

Many chateaux in the area will also offer this style of visit, so don’t forget to ask and book in advance! Bordeaux wines are meant to be shared with food, so this is a wonderful way to try our local wines. Enjoy!

I also offer tastings during my market tours but can arrange a unique tour based on your preferences as well! Book Your Food Tour – Aquitaine Travel Guide.
